Abstract

Treatment with bFGF was associated with a reduction in infarct size without hemodynamic effects or evidence of neovascularization. These data suggest that bFGF mediates myocardial salvage independently of angiogenesis and that reperfusion after infarction may attenuate the stimulus for neovascularization.
