Abstract

Increases in UCP2 expression that lower DeltaPsi(m) and contribute to protection against oxidative stress, also have deleterious effects on beat-to-beat [Ca(2+)](c) handling and excitation-contraction coupling, which may contribute to the progression of heart disease.
