In the present work, the design of a symmetric double bifurcation is discussed, which is based on anatomical data. Applying the FIRE® (AVL-List, Graz, Austria) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package for the solution of the Navier-Stokes and continuity equations, the flow field within the double bifurcation is obtained. In addition, deposition sites for 10 urn aerosol particles are calculated under consideration of the concomitant mechanisms of impaction, gravitational settling and interception.
