Abstract

The CeNiHZOY oxyhydride compound is an exceptional catalyst that totally converts ethanol at 60 °C and produces H2 in the presence of water and oxygen. The H2 fraction of the gas-phase products is about 50 % (see picture; c: conversion, p: production). The oxyhydride compound is formed by in-situ activation of CeNiOY with H2 at 250 °C. The presence of hydride species in the catalyst is evidenced by inelastic neutron scattering.
