Abstract

Abstract A new synthesis for canthaxanthin, according to the scheme C 19 + C 2 + C 19 = C 40 using dehydro‐retro‐C 19 ‐aldehyde and acetylene is described. The synthetic material proved to be identical in its properties with the natural product isolated from Cantharellus cinnabarinus.
