Abstract

SUMMARY.– Epidermal‐dermal interactions are discussed and the importance of the blood vessel as part of the dermis is emphasized. The manner in which vascular endothelium grows and the factors controlling its growth are discussed. In the papilla the epidermis, nerve endings, fibroblast, melanocyte, mast cell and histiocyte are the immediate neighbours of the endothelium of the papillary blood vessel. As such their possible influence on the endothelium is emphasized and analysed.
