The Tetrasilabicyclo[1.1.0]butane System: Structure of 1,3‐Di‐<i>tert</i>‐butyl‐2,2,4,4‐tetrakis‐(2,6‐diethylphenyl)tetrasilabicyclo[1.1.0]butane

Abstract

The weak central Si-Si bond in 1 is surprisingly short (2.373 Å)—its length is almost the same as that of the SiSi bonds in trans,trans,trans-(tBuMeSi)4 (2.377 Å). The Si1Si3 bond was expected to be particularly long owing to the high p-character and in analogy to the bonding in bicyclobutanes.
