ABSTRACT Adrenaline increased the concentration of, and changed the relationship between different hexose phosphates in isolated rat diaphragm. This indicated that adrenaline did not only influence the carbohydrate metabolism in striated muscle by activating the enzyme phosphorylase and stimulating the glycogenolysis. An increased glycogenolysis was probably the most significant effect of adrenaline but an activation of the reactions: glucose‐1‐phosphate → glucose‐6‐phosphate; fructose‐6‐phosphate + ATP → fructose‐1–6‐phosphate → ADP also seemed to be of importance.
