Abstract

ABSTRACT A study was made of ovarian tissue, obtained from 5 women who had used an oral contraceptive during 4–30 cycles. Intra-ovarian signs of follicle growth and follicle maturation were found in 4, and hyperthecosis was present in 3 subjects. These changes are an indication of FSH and LH activity. Ovarian fibrosis was found in the 3 women who had used ovulation inhibitors for 12 or more cycles: thickening of the tunica albuginea was present in 3 and fibrosis of the cortical stroma in 2 of these women.
