Abstract A compact asymmetric coplanar strip‐fed staircase ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with notch band reconfigurable characteristic is proposed and investigated numerically and experimentally.The reconfigurable notch bands are realized by using a spur‐slot and an ideal switch. By controlling the switch at OFF and ON states, the notch bands of the proposed UWB antenna can work at 3.5 and 8.2 GHz, respectively. Numerical and experimental results show that the proposed antenna is capable of working for entire UWB application and providing the reconfigurable notch bands. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
