Abstract

The vane test measures the torsional force required to shear a cylindrical failure surface described by the vane blade edges. Undrained shear strength is obtained by converting the torsional force to a unit shearing resistance of the cylindrical failure surface [American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard D 2573-72; 2].
