Abstract

Static and dynamic corrosion of galvanized steel in 4.6 M lithium bromide (LiBr) solution at 20°C and at 70°C was studied using a new polarographic method for the determination of zinc (Zn) in LiBr solution. Static and dynamic corrosion of galvanized steel at 20°C and 70°C followed a linear tendency with exposure time. However, a change in the slope of dynamic corrosion was observed at 20°C. The corrosion product was studied using energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDXA) and x-ray diffractometry and was considered to be a mixture of zinc hydroxide Zn(OH)2 and oxides. The corrosion product morphology was amorphous and gelatinous at 20°C and crystalline at 70°C.
