The concept of crisis has served as a useful framework within which to consider the reactions of persons to a wide range of events. Judging by the recent literature, there is a newly awakened interest in this area. The present paper attempts to review the representative literature pertinent to the development of this concept, the current uses in the field and some suggested future directions for research, especially as they pertain to the broad field of mental health.
