Our experience demonstrates that a conservative policy of management of disseminated intravascular coagulation can result in a satisfactory outcome and thereby avoid the hazards of heparin therapy. Summary Two babies who developed bilateral cephalhaematomata within the first 24 hours of life had gross abnormalities of their coagulation mechanisms. The changes were those of a consumption coagulo- pathy.
