Abstract

In order to optimize magnetic fluids for applications like, for instance, material separation, preference is given to methods which separate magnetic nanoparticles according to their magnetic properties. Hence, a magnetic method was developed for the fractionation of magnetic fluids. The fractions obtained and the original sample were characterized by so-called magnetorelaxometry, which records the magnetic relaxation of samples after removal of a magnetic field. For comparison, AC susceptometry was performed. Both methods yielded comparable results. Some magnetic fractions show distinctly improved magnetic properties compared to the original sample and are especially suited for applications like magnetorelaxometry.
