A comparison is made of some properties of diodone (Per-Abrodil), iodoxyl (Uroselectan B), sodium iodohippurate (Hippuran) and four other iodine-containing organic substances. Their actions on the heart, the blood vessels and the blood pressure are described. By a special method, their effects on intra-carotid injection, as in cerebral angiography, have been investigated in cats. One of the substances, which had not previously been used and which showed promise as a new contrast medium, was found to be badly tolerated by human subjects. The choice of medium for pyelography, cardiography, and angiography is discussed: in each case it is shown that diodone is the most suitable medium. It is also shown that diodone is worthy of clinical trial for cerebral angiography.
