Abstract

A hexaphenylethane derivative carrying six unbridged aryl substituents is formed on dimerization of the corresponding triarylmethyl radical. The heterochiral trityl propellers are staggered in the crystal (S6 conformation). The central CC bond of the molecule is surprisingly short at 147(2) pm.
