This paper proposes a novel control method of an indirect matrix converter to reduce the switching loss of inverter stage and to reduce the junction temperature at the low output frequency operation. The proposed control method achieves the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation in the inverter stage instead of the rectifier stage as in the conventional method. As a result, this method reduces the junction temperature of the switching devices since the switching loss had reduced. The basic performances of the proposed method have been confirmed by the experimental and simulation results. By applying the proposed method, the minimum output frequency is decreased to 1/4 times of that of the conventional method at the same junction temperature point. The maximum efficiency and the input power factor are 94.7 % and 99.4 % at 40 Hz output frequency. In addition, the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the input and output current are 1.65% and 1.45%, respectively. These results prove capableness and effectiveness of the proposed control method.
