Abstract (9Z, 11E)-tetradecadien-1-y1 acetate 4 is a major component of the sex pheromone of the Egyptian cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis, which is an insect pest of major economic importance in mediterranean countries 1,2. The compound 4 has also been isolated from Spodoptera litura which is a japanese vegetable pest 3,4.
