The $\mathrm{LMM}$ Auger spectra of Cu, Zn, Ga, and Ge are presented and discussed. Transition probability calculations are described and with these a clear assignment of the peaks can be made. It is further shown that from the ${L}_{3}{M}_{45}{M}_{45}$ Auger lines the term splittings and the effective on-site electron-electron interaction can be determined. The latter is shown to be strongly reduced from the free-atom value. This has important consequences for the description of the band structure using one-electron theories. The satellite structure for Cu and Zn in the ${L}_{3}{M}_{45}{M}_{45}$ region of the spectrum is shown to be a result of strong Coster-Kronig processes involving the ${L}_{2}$ and ${L}_{3}$ core levels.
