Abstract A method to obtain the diffusion coefficients and free volume parameters from desorption data for organic liquids in polymer films is presented. The method consists of fitting a numerical solution of the diffusion equation to experimental desorption data. Some problems that arise in the solution of the diffusion equation are discussed and results for a benzene–polyethylene system are presented.
