A selective route: Hypermetallyl germanium(II) and tin(II) compounds (see scheme) were prepared using dimetallyl magnesium reagents and were fully characterized. These derivatives, which contain good leaving substituents, might be suitable candidates for the preparation of nanomaterial alloys.
