Abstract Mass spectra of quaternary ammonium salts obtained by fission‐fragment induced desorption and laser induced desorption are reported and compared with those obtained by static secondary ion mass spectrometry as well as by field desorption and by field desorption/collisional activation. The principal fragmentation pathways are the same. Certain differences are discussed.
