We present an improvement of the similarity-logic interpretation of the generalized modus ponens rule. The main feature of this new interpretation is its ability to distinguish between the bodies of evidence corresponding to antecedent and conditional distributions. Furthermore, we show that this characterization is consistent with the variable-oriented, fuzzy-logic concept of generalized modus ponens.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
