A copper poly[2]catenate with a degree of polymerization (DP) of 8–9 has been prepared by copolymerization of a large bifunctionalized catenate with a terephthalic acid derivative (see picture). The metal-free poly[2]catenand was obtained by demetalation of the copper poly[2]catenate.
