Abstract

Ligands lost, ligands gained: A terminal tungsten nitride is converted into the corresponding terminal tungsten phosphide by a one-pot sequence of atom-transfer reactions (see scheme). The phosphide complex is subsequently functionalized by treatment with a phosphorus-based electrophile. The resulting phosphorus-rich complex displays PP multiple-bonding character.
