Surface irradiances calculated from Meteosat sensor data during SOFIA-ASTEX

Abstract

Abstract During the Atlantic Stratocumulus Transition Experiment ( ASTEX) solar and longwave irradiance fields at the surface were calculated over the Azores region. They were produced in near-real time using the data with the finest spatial resolution available from the Meteosat sensor. The methods used are described briefly and the preliminary comparisons with in situ measurements are presented.
