Abstract

A crystalline rutile titanium oxide (TiO 2 )‐dispersed porous glass–ceramic was successfully prepared by the phase separation of aluminosilicate‐based glass. A rutile TiO 2 crystal was clearly observed after the heat treatment of 20TiO 2 ·29SiO 2 ·13Al 2 O 3 ·28CaO·5MgO·2P 2 O 5 ·2B 2 O 3 ·1ZrO 2 (mol%) glass at 900°C for 15 h. The glass–ceramic obtained was then treated with an acid solution (3 mol/dm 3 nitric acid) to leach its soluble phases. The acid‐treated sample became porous, and the glass–ceramic obtained had a large surface area of 74 m 2 /g. The porous glass–ceramic adsorbed methylene blue (MB) rapidly, and the adsorbed MB was photodecomposed by ultraviolet irradiation.
