We propose a simple method for interconnecting a group of optical network units (ONUs) dispersed throughout the customer premises, yet retaining the features of the conventional passive optical network (PON) system. A fiber Bragg grating on the feeder fiber near the star coupler reflects the light from an ONU and broadcasts it to all ONUs through the coupler. We experimentally demonstrated its feasibility using two wavelengths: one for the conventional PON and the other for internetworking ONUs.
