A prototype combined capillary electrochromatography/electrospray mass spectrometry interface (CEC/ESI-MS) has been designed, built and evaluated for rapid, electrically-driven chromatographic analyses which facilitates high separation efficiencies with mass spectrometric detection. The system has an integral electrokinetic injection system and separation is performed in the interface probe using short columns with high field strengths. The system is equally capable of performing on-line capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry (CE/MS)
