A mediator-free Z-scheme overall water splitting photocatalyst system is achieved through the use of C<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub>(H<sub>2</sub>generation catalyst) and WO<sub>3</sub>(O<sub>2</sub>generation catalyst) composite from a hydrothermal method, and Pt as co-catalyst under visible light (<italic>λ</italic>> 420 nm).
