Information models and ontologies, although originally developed for different applications and most often used in different disciplines, share several common features. It is natural to assume that techniques applicable for knowledge representation tasks based on ontologies, can be used for information models as well. In this paper, the focus will be on resolving inconsistencies in ontology design. In particular, an algorithmic solution is proposed that allows to automatically rewrite certain types of occurring inconsistencies in terminological hierarchies. Furthermore an experimental evaluation of the proposed algorithm is sketched.
