The uptake of labelled sulphate by human cartilage cells and its use as a test for viability

Abstract

Abstract Human cartilage will incorporate labelled sulphate into chondroitin sulphate in vitro. This activity is apparently exhibited only by the living chondrocyte, and it should serve as a reliable indicator of viability of the tissue.
