This paper is about the chip for the impulse radio UWB positioning system compliant with IEEE 802.15.4a global standard that not only realizes communication but also ranging function with low cost and low power. The impulse radio UWB positioning baseband chip manufactured through the TSMC 0.13 um mixed-signal CMOS process. It has been designed for the direct up-down conversion transceiver. Hence it could apply flexibly to be managed with the changes according to the mutually different UWB frequency channel policy in each country. In the experiment, the chip for ranging performed very precise positioning and tracking of several tens centimeters in the multipath indoor shadowing environment.
