Optical-fibre thermometer for medical use

Abstract

A new optical-fibre temperature sensor is proposed which is based on light amplitude modulation induced by a thermosensitive cladding applied on the distal end of the fibre. The experimental set-up for detecting and processing the signal is described, and the measured characteristics of the thermometer are reported.
