Abstract

Skimboarding can be associated with hyperdorsiflexion injuries of the metatarsophalangeal joint. MRI shows that such injuries are associated with hyperdorsiflexion of the extensor hallucis longus or extensor digitorum longus tendon, causing tear of the extensor expansion. Unlike turf toe, in which the plantar plate is involved, skimboarder's toe involves structures dorsal to the metatarsophalangeal joint.
