Zinc salts do SiO's: Organosilicon chemistry is crucially determined by the high stability and chemical resistance of the Si-O-Si bond. The formation and structural existence of water-stable metallasilanolates demonstrate both the possibility to cleave the Si-O-Si bond with simple zinc compounds under mild conditions as well as the existence of such molecular metallasilanolates in the presence of water.
