Abstract

The influence of the grain size and the photon energy on the light output of a thermoluminescent dosimeter is discussed. A recent cavity theory is applied to the problem and the response of lithium fluoride, calcium fluoride, calcium sulphate and lithium borate when in air or teflon have been calculated. The calculations cover grain sizes from 1 to 100 μ and photon energies from 0.01 to 0.60 MeV. Above 0.2 MeV the response of all these thermoluminescent dosimeters, whether in air or teflon is almost independent of both the grain size and the photon energy.
