Ultralong Bi 2 S 3 nanoribbons have been synthesized by a solvothermal process, using a mixture of aqueous NaOH solution and glycerol as the solvent. These nanoribbons (see Figure) are 50–300 nm wide, 20–80 nm thick, and up to several millimeters long, and the initial formation of the precursor polycrystalline NaBiS 2 phase is crucial to their formation. The nucleation and growth process was interpreted as a solid–solution–solid transformation.
