10 Gbit/s RZ-OOK to BPSK format conversion by cross-phase modulation in single semiconductor optical amplifier

Abstract

A simple and power-efficient, all-optical format conversion from 10 Gbit/s RZ-OOK to BPSK is demonstrated using a single semiconductor optical amplifier and optical bandpass filtering. A receiver sensitivity penalty of ∼1 dB relative to baseline RZ-OOK was obtained for ∼−0.17 nm filter detuning relative to the probe carrier wavelength.
