The magnetic properties of ternary alloys of composition (Gd <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0.26</inf> Fe <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0.74</inf> ) <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">1-y</inf> M <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">y</inf> (M = Ge,Si,Sn,Bi,Au) have been studied. The measured temperature dependence of anisotropy constant for the different compositions showed a strong decrease of perpendicular anisotropy compared to the pure GdFe. The results were interpreted mainly by a change of pair-ordering mechanism of TM-TM atoms due to the influence of the third component. Data of the heat of formation for Ge, Si, Sn, Bi and Au into Fe or rare earths were taken into account.
