The stereospecific asymmetric reduction of functionalised ketones

Abstract

The reduction of functionalised ketones with actively fermenting yeast gives secondary alcohols of high optical purity in moderate yields; the method is of value for the synthesis of optically active α- and β- hydroxyesters.
