Abstract

A fusion of polygons: A unique Dy10 cluster with four fused Dy3 triangles has been synthesized by incorporating the polydentate Schiff base ligand H4L in two different binding modes in its mono- and di-deprotonated state (see figure). This Dy10 compound represents the largest lanthanide cluster based on the peculiar Dy3 triangles, therefore opening a promising route toward the design of novel magnetic materials.
