Uniform 64×1 arrays of individually-addressed vertical cavity top surface emitting lasers

Batch-processed, totally planar, vertical-cavity top surface emitting GaAs/AlGaAs laser arrays are reported. Arrays having 64×1 elements are characterised and shown to have uniform room-temperature continuous-wave operating characteristics for threshold current ≃ 2.1±0.1 mA, wavelength ≃ 849.4±0.8 nm, and output power ≃ 0.5±0.1 mW.
