Advanced Nitrate-Based Technology for Sulfide Control and Improved Oil Recovery

Abstract

Abstract Industry now recognizes that nitrate based technology is preferred to biocide treatments for the control, prevention, and removal of biogenic produced sulfide in sea and produced water injection systems. Advanced formulations with varying ratios of nitrate/nitrite have proven superior to nitrate-only treatments by providing increased effectiveness at lower treating levels with reduced costs. Concurrent with sulfide control these advanced nitrate/nitrite combination formulations have demonstrated significant increased oil recovery in field operations. Data show the dual benefits of the advanced nitrate/nitrite technology to offer industry the opportunity to reduce operating costs while additionally producing more oil.
