Abstract

Abstract High levels of phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) carboxylase were detected in leaf epidermal tissue of Tulipa gesnariana L. and Commelina communis L. Further investigations with C. communis suggested that the PEP carboxylase activity was located primarily in the guard cells. The possible role(s) of the enzyme in controlling stomatal movements are considered.
