The reaction of dipyrazol-1-yl ketone with appropriate ketonic compounds is catalyzed by the presence of CoCl 2 , to yield dipyrazolylalkanes (C 3 H 3 N 2 ) 2 CRR′, (a) where R = R′ = CH 3 , CD 3 , C 2 H 5 ; (b) where R = H, R′ = CH 3 , C 6 H 5 ; (c) where R = CH 3 , R′ = C 2 H 5 ; and 1,1-dipyrazolylcycloalkanes derived from cyclobutanone, pentanone, hexanone, 3-methyl and 4-methylhexanone. Cobalt(II) chloride reacts with dipyrazol-1-yl ketone, in tetrahydrofuran, to yield the complex CoCl 2 (C 3 H 3 N 2 ) 2 CO, and in acetone or acetone-d 6 to yield CoCl 2 (C 3 H 3 N 2 ) 2 C(CH 3 ) 2 or CoCl 2 (C 3 H 3 N 2 ) 2 C(CD 3 ) 2 .
