Synthesis, Solution Dynamics, and Crystal Structures of (2,2‘:6‘,2‘‘-Terpyridine)(η¹- and η³-allyl)palladium(II) Complexes

Abstract

The palladium allyl complexes [(2,2‘:6‘,2‘‘-terpyridine)Pd(C3H5)]X (1, X- = BF4-; 2, X- = ClO4-) were synthesized and characterized. The molecular structures of the η3- and η1-allyl isomeric forms of 2, where the terpyridine ligand coordinates the palladium atom either in a bidentate or in a tridentate fashion, were determined by X-ray crystallography, whereas a variable-temperature 1H NMR analysis of 1 shows that the complex is fluxional.
