Strong acquired resistance against schistosome infection in rhesus monkeys can be induced by previous immunizations with cercariae exposed to large amounts of X-radiation; i.e., 24,000 or 48,000 R. This indicates that acquired resistance against schistosome infection can be induced exclusively from functional antigen produced after contact or deterioration of the schistosomular stage in the dermal tissues.
