Substrate‐Specific Catalysis by Ion Pairs

Abstract

Rate accelerations up to 400-fold are observed for the reaction of amine 1 with 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene in CHCl3 to give 3 when simple ion pairs like tetrabutylammonium tosylate (or benzylate) are added. The exact reaction mechanism is not yet known.
